🎤 VCHS Poetry Out Loud Competition Recap Valley City High School hosted its 6th annual Poetry Out Loud competition on Tuesday, January 21. Poetry Out Loud is a national program that inspires high school students to read, analyze, memorize, and recite poetry. This year, two VCHS seniors, Leah Hochhalter and Ada Gilbertson, advanced from their classroom rounds in dual-credit public speaking last fall and dedicated extra effort to compete for the title of school champion. On the VCHS theater stage, both contestants recited two poems selected from over 1,100 options. Their performances were evaluated by volunteer judges from the VCSU English Club. 🎉 Congratulations to Leah Hochhalter, who was named the VCHS School Champion! Leah will advance to the state-level competition at the Heritage Center in Bismarck on March 3, 2025, for a chance to compete at Nationals in Washington, D.C. 👏 A big shout-out to both Leah and Ada for their outstanding recitations.

Yesterday afternoon, Mrs. Gregerson was honored by committee members with this well-deserved recognition. 📚 Spelling Bee Success! 🐝 On Tuesday, January 14, Valley City Junior High held its school spelling bee. All junior high students participated in a 15-question preliminary round through their English classes, and the top scorers advanced to the school bee. 🎉 Congratulations to our four finalists: ⭐ Garet Goven ⭐ Cassandra Hansen ⭐ Hayley Sather ⭐ John Oakland The top two places went to: 🥇 John Oakland 🥈 Cassandra Hansen John and Cassandra will now advance to the County Spelling Bee, which will take place in the HAC Lobby on February 3, 2025, at 1 PM. Way to go, spellers! 👏✨ Good luck at the next level!

🎉 Shout-Out to Our Amazing Hi-Liners! 🎉 Today, 108 VCHS students and 4 staff members volunteered at the Feed My Starving Children Event in Fargo, ND. Together, they assembled an incredible 144 boxes containing 31,104 meals to help children around the world. 🌍🍴 This is the second year our students and staff have participated in this impactful event, proudly representing our school and community with compassion and dedication.
